The Havaianas name got its inspiration in Hawaii, the paradise of sun, sea and sand which perfectly sum up the Havaianas mood.
The name selection was ideal, since the sandals were best worn in places with a hot climate, leaving the feet free and uncovered.
Hawaii also refers to that delightful feeling of enjoying a pleasant and relaxing moment, and there\'s nothing better than enjoying those moments with a comfortable pair of Havaianas
The Havaianas design was inspired by the Japanese sandals known as Zori, made of a thin rice straw sole and fabric thongs.
To adapt the Japanese model to the Brazilian market, São Paulo Alpargatas used rubber as raw material and the rice grain format for the sole texture.
And that\'s how the famous Havaianas were born.
Yes, it was trademarked by Alpargatas in 1962.
The Havaianas sandals were born on June 14, 1962.
The sandal pioneered the introduction of the \"flip-flop\" concept into Brazil and the patent for the brand\'s industrial model was registered in 1964, under the: “New sole with thong model”.

In 2007, 173 million pairs of Havaianas were sold which breaks down to 47 973 pairs/day, 19 749 pairs/hour, 330 pairs/minute, 6 pairs/second.
Immerse your Havaianas in water and detergent for a few minutes after which you give them a good scrubbing with a non-abrasive sponge. Be sure to rinse them with clean water once you done!
Do NOT put them into a washing machine, this can damage the thongs and sole.
There is no exact answer to this question because the durability of a pair of Havaianas depends on several factors including:
- Frequency of use
- What you wearing them for

Havaianas releases its new collections on an annual basis with each collection consisting of various quantities of model and styles.
The last collection had 79 models, divided into female, male, unisex, children and baby lines.

The Havaianas collection is released every year in the month of June but to avoid leaving the consumers without new choices for too long a time frame, new models and/or colors are launched during other months of the year.

The Havaianas factory is located in Campina Grande, the second most populated town in the State of Paraíb and has approximately 371 thousand inhabitants.
Distantced 120 km from the capital, João Pessoa is considered one of the main industrial and technological centers in Northeastern Brazil.
In order to ensure a top quality product our sandals undergo several tests in our lab which include:
- resistance tests of the thong itself
- resistance test of the thong notch
- Abrasion testing
- hardness and density tests (to make sure that the sole is comfortable and resistant)
- sole deformity tests
- print quality testing
- wear and tear testing
As well as tests that analyze the size and color of the sandals.
Havaianas are flip-flops which in essence are a type of sandal.
Due to them being an open shoe, we were able to make Havaianas fit two sizes with no effect on the comfort of the sandal.
Some models - Havaianas High, for example - have different characteristics and therefore bear a traditional size choice where each pair fits one size only.
The vast majority of Havaianas models are made in a way provides the opportunity for each size to comfortably fit two conventional sizes.
Each model has its own specific sizing , but, in general, the sizes follow along the below guidelines.
